Background

Aiming to impact the lives of 100 million people across the world, Philanthropy University emerged as the first-of-its-kind online upskilling ecosystem in 2016. It is the world’s largest trainer of social impact organizations. With a free online learning platform to democratize education for social impact, the University has the vision to become a catalyst for long-term systemic change by introducing measurable efficiency to the front lines.

The Challenge

“The solution is meant to measurably improve 5,000 local nonprofits by 2020,” Connor Diemand-Yauman, CEO of Philanthropy University shared while explaining the scope of the challenge.

With over 75,000 academics, development professionals, and local experts from 180 countries enrolling for courses at any given time, it was a real challenge to implement a scalable, technology-driven capacity-building solution that enabled the stakeholders to open collaboration without the constraints of geographical boundaries.

The Solution

After evaluating the scope of the project and the level of expertise it required, Philanthropy University took Edly on board to build a proprietary learning and community platform for frontline practitioners.

With 6 years of experience in creating Open edX communities, Edly set out to create a top-notch user experience between NodeBB and Open edX – integral to spark peer-to-peer knowledge exchange, for a user demographic that desperately lacked the resources and data infrastructure.

Results

The project involved designing, creating, and executing a responsive learning experience for instructors and learners alike. Edly was able to create another success story by crafting a robust technology platform that:

• facilitated a seamlessly integrated knowledge-based community
• offered high-performance, end-end services
  furnished multi-lingual support
• supplied responsive web & mobile apps leveraged for compromised data connectivity conditions
• provided real-time, data-driven, actionable insights to architect a perfect adaptive learning experience.

Currently, Edly and Philanthropy University are in their fourth year of partnership with the former acting as the latter’s all-in-one technology partner.
